Addiction to Lecturing?

Is there such thing? So, if yes, is it bad or good? Is there any cure? What can I do about it? Emmm…

This ‘sicknesses' will have no diagnosis nor will there be any cure…

Or is it a sickness or passion?

Ahhh….

I have found myself loving what I am doing though sometimes I find it hard to have the creative ideas to present my lesson. Sometimes, I have to really push myself, to say, another 2 hours only… but, if I don’t have any lecture on that particular day, I don’t know what to do.

So, what am I suppose to do?

I have prepared myself for this job since the day I pursue my PhD. I have set my sight on this profession though I must confess; lecturing wasn’t my main motivation to do my PhD.

I pursued my PhD because I just wanted to add the extra Dr. to my name. But, since I have started the PhD, I know what I wanted to do… you see the connection now?

Dr to my name… so, do PhD…PhD then…lecturing…

So, am I a reluctant lecturer? We have reluctant politicians…why not reluctant lecturer?

But, now I love this job. Passionate about it…

I love going to the class, looking at the student, talking to them (I wonder if they love talking to me as much as me talking them???), giving lecture (I wonder if the students love listening to me or I am like Paul, preaching until the people fall off the stairs because the person doze off?) or just simply relating and having fun with them.

I just simply love the expression the student gave when they understand the topic or concept. I love to see the smile in them, their eyes glow as the catch it. I love it when they asked questions because I know they are thinking.

Cell communication …stimuli - processing – effector:

Positive feedback will be

Smile –understand – happiness

Or simply the negative feedback will be

Scratching head – confusion – frustration

I will love the positive feedback more. J

Anyway, I know I will be in this profession for quite sometimes just don’t know how long…

Because, I do have other passions too; a lot of other things I wanted to do and accomplished…

But at the meantime, I will be dedicated and committed to lecturing.

Interesting to know about sir's perspective as well towards teaching. I have always believe that one needs to have passion towards the things they do and I'm happy to know that sir has passion towards teaching. But sadly sometimes we can't do things we love to do best.

Not sure bout the rest but I can feel your passion in lecturing ^^ All the best for your future undertakings! Thank you for trying your level best in lecturing us although we might not be the best students ever lol

emm...thanks Yuen...
do you mean you also feel I dont teach that well too.. hahaha... I must admit sometimes, I felt i didnt do my best.

anyway, thanks for your encouragement. I will be back at teaching too...

it doesn't matter if the student is the best or not as long as on our part, we do the best. I believe, student best is sometimes left to be develop by the lecturer and bring it out.

anyway, i enjoy this class with all of you..

all the best in the exam...score it and you will be your best :)

No noo, that's not what I meant! >< What I was trying to convey is that sometimes we don't get to do things we most like to do but have to do other things we might not like to do as much (: Sorry for my choice of words, the meaning went off tangent. Hahaha

You're welcome! I am inspired on how sir can strive so hard for your goals. I'm not sure if I can go as high as that, but let's just see how it goes :D

True! But students also play a huge role as well. So vice versa I guess

Thank you! Off to more studying lol

hey... just kidding.

i know what you meant.

don't worry. just pulling your leg.

i really pray that all of you will be able to pass with flying color. i dont want to see my student having to repeat... that will be very sad. :(

Anyway, if you all have anything, dont hesitate to drop by office or email me to ask.

wow..long time i havent visisted this site ever since my last visit....there are many interesting stuff here...

Sometimes I just wonder why there are many PhD eneded out become a lecturer for a very long time?

This might be the answer...
Lecturing is too comfortable ..or put it in other words...when one stay in a proffesion for a very long time, they feel very comfortable of it and continue staying in that field... and when you are old...the courage of changing to other field become very low and in the end they ended up in the same field they are doing right now...especially lecturing...

So, if you have other passions..try to get out of this field ASAP....just experiencing it is enough.....

Btw i have a very very very similar goals or dreams as you ...basically all of them ... except for one..to be a nobel prize winner..

For me..to be a low profile millionaire is enough... and to Have TIME and MONEY together....
Because got a lot of time..no MONEY...cant enjoy many great stuffs... Got MONEY..no TIME ...no time to enjoy the money (many higher income ppl belongs to this group)

wow! Phylosophycal!

yes, i understand your point strongly as i never wanted my family to suffer because Money too...

Time is a critical part.

as for lecturing, it might be comfortable but yet it's not. a lot that goes behind the teaching process that student don't see.

a lecturer must engage in constant learning to improve themselves and also to do research to expand their expertise. futhermore, we read more then the student so that we can teach. if not.. how to teach.

lecturing is not an easy job as we have to be send for training and conference too..

but i guess, there are always ups and downs in all jobs. and lecturing, i should say, on the easier part!

but, i believe one thing, lecturing allows us shape the world too!

ya... i agree with you as many jobs have ups and downs...
There are many factors to be considered before one venture out to another field ... when u r older and have family..then u wont dare to venture out to other field...this is what i mean by comfortable! There are many people who ended up working and working around the field they are in until they retired..because they do not dare to actually try to go out to change for a better life to achieve thier dreams...because of family and fear of failure...

When we are young, we should try to achieve what we want as soon as possible...before we dare not...haha
