DNA was known to be a chemical in the cell by the 19th century and the race is on to find the molecular structure since then. In 1953, Watson & Crick shock the world by publishing the landmark paper in Nature, declaring that they have found the molecular arrangement.

The 3D arragement give the DNA its unique properties.



Watson & Crick was awarded the coverted Nobel Price for their discovery. However, their discovery overshadowed another well known researcher at that time, in the field of X ray crystallography; Rosalind Franklin.

Without her x-ray pictures, Watson & Crick might not be able to find the correct 3D shape of the DNA molecules.



It has been 58 years since the discovery and DNA is still the basic and most importants finding till this days!
